The RIAS Berlin Commission is a binational organization created in 1992 to promote exchanges of broadcast journalists between the United States and Germany. Two week fellowships in groups of 10 to 12 are available for US broadcast journalists in Germany each year with travel and hotel costs covered by the RIAS endowment. RIAS, or Radio in American Sector, was a legendary Cold War-era radio and later TV station that beamed news, information and music into Communist East Germany and contributed to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. More than 800 US and 800 German journalists have taken part in the fellowships.
